These kits are museum lessons in an all-inclusive container.

		Teachers may rent a kit for 2-4 weeks.
		Each kit contains artifacts, images, art activities, learning activities, teaching resources, and a thorough teacher's guide.
		Relevant Pennsylvania education standards are referenced in each kit.
		Cost is $5.00 per class for rental of each kit; delivery and pick up are available for an additional $10.00 each.

Available Kits:

Tools of the Penman - Housed in a reproduction penman's kit, this unit for grades 4-8 introduces both teacher and student to the history and art of Pennsylvania German decorated documents known as Fraktur.

Amish Arts of Lancaster County - An Amish toy chest houses a myriad of Amish-made art objects and other items related to Lancaster County's Amish community.

Susquehannock Indian Basket - This tall basket, suitable for grades 3-6, includes a variety of touchable artifacts related to local Native American culture.

Sunshine and Shadow: Lancaster County Amish Quilts - This brand-new kit has been created and developed by three elementary teachers in the Penn Manor School District.  It includes a teacher's guide, activity station materials, reproduction quilts, fabric samples, tools and other items designed for use in the classroom.  The kit's contents fit neatly into a portfolio-sized soft case.  Teachers of grades 3-5 and beyond will find this kit useful in touching upon art, family and consumer science, history, language arts and mathematics.

Box Tape Loom Weaving - The old-fashioned experience of weaving narrow strips of cloth, or tape, on a lap-sized loom is available for your class.  With the availability of thirty looms, each student or pair will learn the age-old craft of tape weaving, which, in the days before elastic, had many daily uses. All materials are included with a personal instructor, or available as a rentable kit.

In-school Programs

Presentations on local history topics deliver exhilarating and interactive lessons right in the classroom. The Education Advisory Committee recommended these programs and the topics were culled from a survey of Lancaster County teachers. The result is a series of highly interactive presentations that meet the needs of educators of local and state history.

		Approximately 1 hour in length.
		Flexibly geared to a 2nd-9th grade audience.
		The certified teacher who presents the programs will tailor them to meet the school's specific needs and grade level.
		Cost is $50 per class plus round-trip mileage from downtown Lancaster to the school.

Available Presentations:

Famous Lancastrians - Meet one of fourteen Lancastrians who influenced both Pennsylvania and the United States. Artifacts, documents, pictures, and a review game reinforce the lesson.

Early Settlers of Lancaster County - Relive life as an early settler from your very own hometown or township. Understand the settlers' lives by dressing in colonial clothing, grinding herbs for medicinal purposes, playing games, and experiencing education as a young colonist.

Evolution and Development of the City of Lancaster - Physically recreate the layout of the city of Lancaster. Experience 300 years of architecture, justice, commerce, transportation and lifestyles with the use of artifacts, court documents, letters, photographs, and drawings.
